Pimple (acne) triggers and common ways to get rid of acne?

Acne, often referred to as pimples, is a common skin problem that occurs mainly on the face, back and chest. The formation of acne is usually associated with a number of factors, and there are several ways to treat and prevent acne.

The main triggers of acne:

  1. Multiple Factors: Acne is usually the result of a combination of factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, oil production, bacterial infections and inflammation.
  2. Hormonal changes: Acne can be triggered by changes in hormone levels, such as puberty, pregnancy, menstrual cycles or hormone medication use.
  3. Skin type: Oily skin is more likely to produce excess sebum, which may increase the risk of acne.
  4. Bacterial infections: Bacteria on the skin (especially Acinetobacter) can lead to follicle infections, triggering acne symptoms.
  5. Diet and Lifestyle: Intake of high sugar foods, high GI foods, dairy products and fast food may be associated with acne development. Hormonal stabilization, a healthy diet and adequate sleep are also important.

Common ways to get rid of acne:

  1. KEEP YOUR SKIN CLEAN: Cleaning your skin is the key to preventing acne. Use a gentle cleanser to clean your face, but don’t over-wash your face to avoid irritating your skin.
  2. Avoid Squeezing Acne: Squeezing acne can lead to infection, inflammation and scarring. Avoid touching the acne area as much as possible.
  3. Use the right skincare products: Choose non-comedogenic skincare products that do not clog pores and avoid oil-based cosmetics.
  4. Eat a balanced diet: Include foods rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and healthy fats.
  5. Avoid irritating foods: Minimize your intake of high GI foods, sugar and dairy products as they may be associated with acne.
  6. Medications: For moderate to severe acne, your doctor may recommend topical or oral medications, such as antibiotics, vitamin A-acids, or birth control pills, to control acne.
  7. Specialized treatments: Some specialized treatments include chemical peels, laser treatments, and microneedling, usually performed by a dermatologist.

Everyone’s skin condition is different, so treatments will vary from individual to individual. If you have acne problems, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist for advice on the most appropriate treatment. Do not treat severe acne on your own as this may aggravate the problem or leave scars.
